5 of Antwerps Best Cafes

If their is one thing that Europeans do well, it’s drinking coffee. This caffeinated drink is incredibly popular in Belgium and is often served in unique cafes rather big chained coffee shops.

The only problem is, their are so many cafes to choose from, but fear not, I selflessly went to many coffee shops sampling the drinks and experiencing the environment to give you a top 5 list of cafes you should visit.

1) The Food Maker

If you kept up with any of my experiences in Antwerp on Instagram you’ll know Food Maker was a constant favourite of mine. I found they served the best hot chocolate in the city and their muffins were freshly baked every morning in a variety of flavours. Whilst this is a chain cafe, it doesn’t have the conglobate feel of other chains.

My recommendation? Hot chocolate with an apple and cinnamon muffin.

2) Coffee Labs

I didn’t discover this cafe until I’d been living in the city for 6 months, but once I did, I went their as often as I could. They have a wide variety of teas on offer, always served as tea leaves with a tea strainer on top of the glass.

My recommendation? Apple and cinnamon tea, served as a powder mixed into warm water.

3) Mad Hatter

As an Alice in Wonderland lover I was incredibly excited when I found this cafe. However, it was quite expensive compared to other cafes in the city. But it did provide a quaint atmosphere in a small two storey cafe with a tea party theme.

My recommendation? Chai tea latte with a apple crumble cake.

4) Coffee Bar by Maurice

This has to be the most photogenic and Instagram worthy cafe, decorated with plenty of flowers and plants to help you get away from the city outside. This cafe is dedicated to making you feel at home and comfortable with beautiful furniture and an interesting menu.

My recommendation? An Alice Latte, made with rose petals and rose water.

5) Exki

The super cafe, this coffee shop offers a menu for the health conscious, with healthy foods at an expensive price this wasn’t my favourite cafe but is perfect for anyone wanting to eat healthy on their travels.

My recommendation? A latte with their bio organic brownie cupcake, tiny and tasty.
